Ocean City July 2007

We did a lot of traveling while I was on maternity leave. We spent the last 10 days at Ocean City, and Giovanny loved the beach!

He's starting to become a lot more expresive now (two and a half months old). We call this "the faces of Giovanny" :)

Deep Creek Lake 4th of July Trip

We went to Deep Creek with Grace, Brandon, and Violet for the 4th of July! This is mommy and Giovanny on the boat - Giovanny posing in his 4th of July outfit!






MD law says any kid under 7 years old has to wear their life jackets while on the boat. So, yes, they do make them small, but not exaclty small enough for an 8 week old! He didn't exactly love it, but hey, safety first!

While you are in Europe...Mientras están en Europa…

So all my friends have blogs to show off their babies, mostly for friends and family that live far away, but here in DC it seems that even local friends use them to keep up on each other. This is why I never really wanted a blog - one time I asked one of my close DC friends about her weekend, and she looked at me and smilied and said something like "obvously you haven't checked the blog." She meant no harm by it, but I felt like "hey, I don't want to have to get on the internet and sit by myself and read about what is going on in your life!" I don't want blogs to replace authentic communicate between friends :) Not to mention that I already spend time journaling and scrapbooking to record our family's memories, so I'm not sure how a blog will fit into our lives timewise!

La razón por la que estamos haciendo este blog es porque todos nuestros amigos tienen blog donde están mostrando a sus bebes. Ellos lo hacen mas que todo para mostrárselos a sus familiares que viven lejos, pero en Washington DC parece que aun las personas que tienen amigos que viven en la misma ciudad lo usan para comunicarse los unos con los otros. Una vez mi esposa le pregunto a una de las amigas mas cercanas de ella que como le había ido el fin de semana pasado, y ella miro a mi esposa sonriente y dijo algo así, “tal parece que no has visto mi blog”. Ella no lo dijo ofendiendo a mi esposa o algo así, pero mi el pensamiento de mi esposa era que ella no necesitaba estar leyendo y buscando en el Internet lo que las amigas de ella hacían. Mi esposa no quería que esos blogs remplazaran la comunicación entre amigos.

Anyway, several months later I now see that my friends have blogs but will still tell me in person details of what is going on in their lives, so I am more comfortable with it!

Algunos meses atrás mi esposa ahora se da cuenta de que sus amigas tienen blogs, pero que aun así se hablan entre ellas cuando se ven y eso a hecho que mi esposa se sienta mas cómoda con la idea de los blogs.

The real reason we are starting the blog - my family (grandma, grandpa, Aunt Michelle and Aunt Jess) all went to Europe for 3 weeks and don't want to miss him grow right now - they really do change so much during these first few months! And my hope is that if we get into the grove with this, then we can use it to keep Dairo's family updated. (Althought that probably means we will have to do all posts in English and Spanish :)

Una de las principales razones por las cuales estamos comenzando a utilizar el blog es primero porque mi familia y amigos que vive en Colombia, y amigos de otros lados, puedan estar al tanto de lo que estamos viviendo y mas ahora con nuestro nuevo miembro de la familia, nuestro hijo Giovanny.

This is his Elmo chair - we are going to use it to watch him grow by taking a picture of him in the chair every month. This is from 6 weeks because we didn't think of the idea until then.
Esta es la silla de este personaje que en ingles se le llama “Elmo” (creo que se llama igual en español) (si piensan que tiene otro nombre avísenme J) Estaremos usando esta silla para ver como Giovanny crece tomando fotos de el mensualmente. Esta foto es cuando el tenia 6 semanas. No pensamos en esa idea antes por eso esta es la primera.

This is how Giovanny gives mommy kisses. It really means he wants to eat, but I hold him up to my face and say "give mommy kisses" and he'll open his mouth and move his head from side to side (looking for food) but it seems like he's giving kisses :) XO!

Este es Giovanny dándole besitos a la mami. (realmente quiere decir que el tiene hambre) Pero cuando mi esposa lo alza ella le dice, “dame besitos” entonces el abre su boquita y mueve su cabecita de un lado hacia el otro (buscando por comida) y por eso parece que esta dando besitos.

We hung out at the pool all day last Monday, and Giovanny was pooped. So we made a little fort for him in the shade so he could relax and sleep (his favorite past time.)

Estuvimos en la piscina todo el día uno de estos lunes pasados y Giovanny cayo profundo de sueno. Entonces hicimos como una pequeña torre para darle sombra y protegerlo del sol, así el podría dormir tranquilamente (su pasatiempo favorito)

We worked on his room this week. This is what is looks like when you walk in! Our last project is to hang his name on the other wall. We painted big letters and are waiting on some fabric blocks to hang them on. Giovanny's friend Ellie has her Mimmy - her grandma that sews and has offered to make these for his room - Thanks Mimmy! More pictures to come once the room is finished.

Estuvimos arreglando el cuarto de el unas semanas atrás. Así es como se ve el cuarto cuando recién entras a el. Nuestro ultimo proyecto es colgar su cada letra de su nombre en el otro lado de la pared. Giovanny tiene una amiguita que se le llaman “Ellie y la abuelita de esta amiguita hizo unos adornos los cuales se los regalo a Giovanny y los cuales utilizaremos para decorar la pared con las letras del nombre de Giovanny.
